Granny is a hilarious character who kidnaps Gary the snail. She is a sweet woman but very creepy, andAmy Poehler brings a lot of humorto the role. She is absolutely hilarious, and her performance as the voice of Granny definitely contributed to this episode’s “iconic” status.

Known for his voice acting being one of his best assets in the acting world,Patton Oswalt’s cameo inSpongeBob SquarePantswas a great one. Patton Oswalt has had many roles throughout the years, but he is known very well for playing Remy inRatatouille.
In the episode “The Original Fry Cook,” Patton Oswalt plays the character of Jim. Jim is the Krusty Krab’s original fry cook, as the name suggests. In the episode, Spongebob feels as though he can’t match up to Jim in his cooking of Krabby Patties. It is great fun that,just likeRemy in Ratatouille, Jim is an excellent cook!

Kristen Wiigis a very well-known actor for her comedy. She has starred in films such asBridesmaidsand voice acted in films such asDespicable Me. ButKristen Wiig is best known forher time as a cast member onSaturday Night Live.In “The Curse of the Hex,” which originally was aired as part of the “Legends of Bikini Bottom” horror anthology special ofSpongeBob SquarePants,she plays Madame Hagfish.
Madame Hagfish is the antagonist of the episode, and she is believed to have put a curse on the Krusty Krab about Mr. Krabs didn’t give her discounted food. It is a hilarious episode in which the characters try to lift Madame Hagfish’s curse on the Krusty Krab, and Kristen Wiig does a great job as the voice of the character.

Season 9, “Goodbye, Krabby Patty?”

In the episode, Don Grouper is an ad executive who tries to take advantage of and capitalize on Mr. Krabs. In the episode, Mr. Krabs has a plan to sell frozen Krabby Patties in supermarkets, and Don Grouper uses that idea to his advantage! It is a very fun choice by the writers of the show to have Jon Hamm play a version of his famous role in a show marketed towards kids, and it is definitely a little nod to the more mature watchers of the show, including parents who may be fans ofMad Men.

Johnny Deppis an extremely famous and versatile actor who isknown for his workin countless movies and shows. No matter what genre people watch, it is almost guaranteed that consumers of film and TV in the modern day have watched something with Johnny Depp in it. “SpongeBob SquarePants vs. The Big One” was a huge episode of the show when it came out in 2009, as it was part of the show’s 10th anniversary.
Johnny Depp guest starred in this episode as the character Jack Kahuna Laguna, a surfing legend and guru. He teaches SpongeBob how to surf a huge legendary wave known as “the big one.” Johnny Depp plays a great and memorable character to the SpongeBob universe, and the role definitely showed off Johnny Depp’s voice acting chops!

But Mark Hamill is also a skilled and experienced voice actor, best known in the voice acting space for playing the role ofThe JokerinBatman: The Animated Series.So, a famous cartoon likeSpongeBob SquarePantshaving a cameo by Mark Hamill makes total sense!
In the episode “Night Light,” Mark Hamill plays the role of The Moth. The Moth is Mermaid Man’s long-lost enemy. Mark Hamill does a great job in this role, bringing equal levels of humor and intensity as this SpongeBob villain! This, of course, makes total sense consideringhis work as The Joker, who has similar traits.

Season 9, “Mall Girl Pearl”
Betty Whitewas a beloved and legendary actress.She was in several showsand movies, and was arguably best known for playing Rose Nylund inThe Golden Girls.Later in her life, Betty White was cast in many grandmotherly roles, so her being cast as Beatrice inSpongeBob SquarePantsmakes total sense.
The character of Beatrice is the owner of Grandma’s Apron, a store in the mall that hires Pearl as an employee. The store sells grandmotherly things, and Beatrice is a kind, elderly fish that is more powerful than she first gives off. This was the perfectSpongeBob SquarePantsrole for the late, great Betty White.
8Adam West as Young Mermaid Man
Season 7, “Back to the Past”
The cameo that featuredAdam Westas Young Mermaid Man was an extremely iconic one. Adam West is best known asthe “original Batman,” having playedBatman in the original 1960s show,also titledBatman. He also played Batman in the1966 filmBatman.
In theSpongeBob SquarePantsuniverse, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are the biggest superheroes there are, with their episodes having direct references toBatman!So, it was absolutely perfect having the man from the source material of the show’sBatmanparody play young Mermaid Man himself! It is not only a great nod to the character’s origins, but Adam West was a great sport for playing into a parody of the character that he originated on TV!
9Pat Morita as Master Udon
Season 4, “Karate Island”
Pat Moritais an iconic actor who is best known for portraying Mr. Miyagi inThe Karate Kid.Mr Miyagi is an extremely iconic role, withPat Morita being forever recognized for it. Following the theme of karate, Pat Morita has a guest appearance in the karate-related episode ofSpongeBob SquarePants,“Karate Island!”
In the episode, Pat Morita’s character is Master Udon. In the episode, Spongebob and Sandy go to Karate Island, and Spongebob is invited to the island to become the King of Karate. After Spongebob gets kidnapped and Sandy goes through an action-packed adventure to save him, Sandy faces Master Udon. It turns out that Master Udon is a scam artist and that Karate Island is just a scam to sell condos. This is a hilarious twist, and it is even better that Pat Morita was able to voice the role. The episode first aired shortly after his passing, with a dedication card for him at the episode’s end.
10David Bowie as Lord Royal Highness
Season 5, “Atlantis SquarePantis”
David Bowieis an absolutely iconic singer who is a legend in the music space with hits like “Space Oddity” and “Heroes.” But David Bowie has also been in several movies,such as his starring role inLabyrinth, and has had many appearances on TV shows as well.SpongeBob SquarePantsis one of many examples of a show that David Bowie had a guest appearance in. He plays the character Lord Royal Highness in the episode “Atlantis Squarepantis.”
What’s fun about this character is that he resembles Bowie, with mismatched eyes and orange hair similar to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust era. Lord Royal Highness also has a similar eccentric vibe to him. As a fun piece of information, this episode was not David Bowie’s only contribution to theSpongeBob SquarePantsuniverse. He also contributed a song to the Broadway musical! David Bowie is definitely one of the most iconic cameos in the entire run ofSpongeBob SquarePants.
