In the wise words ofOasis’s song “Hello” —“It’s good to be back.”LiamandNoel Gallagherhave always taken pride in their achievements. For these working-class Mancunians, nothing beats the sweet feeling of selling tens of millions of copies of their musical trifecta:Definitely Maybe, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, andBe Here Now. Damon Albarn Concedes to Oasis As Reunion Tour Dominates Summer Headlines
It’s been a long time coming, but Albarnhas openly acknowledged Oasis as the victors of the Britpop rivalry. In a recent interview, Albarn expressed: “They are the winners. They take first place. In the face of such overwhelming evidence, I am happy to accept and concede defeat. It’s their summer, and God bless them.” He reflected on the disparity between his two-night Wembley run and Oasis’s larger shows, admitting, “Our two nights at Wembley will be dwarfed by their seven.” Albarn says he predicted their reunion and holds no resentment, calling the band’s return “obvious.”

Blur and Oasis’ Britpop Rivalry Peaked During the 1996 Brit Awards
The Battle of Britpop began in August 1995,triggered by the single release of both bands on the same day. At that point, both bands were enjoying their newfound success. Blur had just come offParklife, and Oasis were steadily growing a following afterDefinitely Maybeand their first No. 1 with “Some Might Say.” Blur moved the release of “Country House” to directly compete with Oasis’. “Roll With It” ignites the spark that would later fire up tensions between the rockers. Both singles were released on August 19, 2025. Blur’s single sold 274,000 copies, beating Oasis’ 216,000. But many fans noted Blur had released two CD versions, which may have tipped the numbers.
The war in numbers eventuallyturned into a public spat. Oasis mocked Blur at the 1996 Brit Awards bysinging a parody of Blur’s “Parklife,”changing the lyrics to “Shitelife” and “Marmite.” Noel didn’t hold back and hoped Albarn and guitaristGraham Coxonwould“catch AIDS and die.”Over the years, the rockers have matured and tensions have cooled down. In 2013, Noel joined Albarn and Coxon on stage for a charity concert, performing Blur’s “Tender.”In 2017, Albarn performed “We Got the Power” on theGraham Norton Showwith his electronic unitGorillaz, joined by none other than Noel.

Liam and Noel Gallagher Finally Bury the Hatchet After Years of Feuding
The road to peace has been rocky for the Gallagher siblings. Theearliest accounts of their deteriorating relationshipdate back to the band’s 1996MTV Unpluggedperformance, where Liam backed out at the last minute due to a sore throat. Noel moved forward with the set, choosing to perform solo instead. It was only in 2009 when Oasis officially split, following a backstage fight at Rock en Seine, reportedly triggered by an argument over Liam’s clothing brand ad in a festival program.Noel quit the band hours before they were set to perform.
After 15 years of jabs, snipes, and humiliation, both brothers teased fans by posting “27.07.24” on social media. Two days later, Oasis announced a 2025 U.K. Reunion tour. In a joint statement, they said, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.” Although the true nature of Noel and Liam’s relationship remains a mystery, judging by the quick hug the two shared on stage during their reunion show, things seem to be okay in the Gallagher household.
