The fifth episode of theChuckytelevision series brought back the character Nica Pierce back to theChild’s Playfranchise. The character appears in both the 2013 filmCurse of Chuckyand the 2017 filmCult of Chucky, played byFiona Dourif, who is the real-life daughter of the voice behind the killer doll,Brad Dourif. While Fiona made her return in the new series, she was also filling the role of her father as she stepped into the murderous shoes of her father’s character from the originalChild’s Play, Charles Lee Ray.

In the latest episode ofChucky, “Little Little Lies,” there is a flashback scene to the 1980s where the audience watches Charles Lee Ray, murderer and human form of Chucky, killing one of his victims — but the person playing the role of Ray was Fiona Dourif, who not only plays a character possessed by Ray but also now plays Ray himself. In a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette uploaded to SYFYs official YouTube channel, the team goes into how it was going back to the ’80s and takes a look at the origins of Ray and Tiffany’s relationship.

“People have been asking for many years about the origins of Charles Lee Ray and the origins of Chucky and Tiffany’s relationship,”Child’s Playseries creatorDon Manciniexplains. “When I was thinking about who would be the perfect person to play young Charles Lee Ray, the answer was right in front of my face. It also seemed really on-brand for our franchise, having Fiona Dourif, a woman, playing a cis male role." Mancini also mentions how creepy it was to see Fiona for the first time as Ray since the look was so accurate to her father’s iconic role.

After the makeup, the team just allowed Fiona’s acting prowess to carry the rest of the role. Fiona also added how exciting yet crazy it is to be playing a character so closely tied to her father: “This whole experience has been wild, and fun, and also the whole mind-fuck of playing this iconic character my father is associated with. I looked into the mirror and I was deeply unnerved, actually. It’s like an Instagram face mash app, except you may’t get it off. I face-timed my dad, as my dad… It was so weird. That’s all I got. It’s weird.”
