With just three episodes left in the first season, fans of Prime Video’sCountdownall have one question on their minds — will this be it, or will the title continue on for another installment? So far this season, the project has met mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with the latter enjoying theJensen Ackles-led crime drama much more than the former. With no renewal plans yet announced to the public, many of those dedicated viewers are simply scratching their heads at home hoping and praying for an official announcement that would point towards more episodes in the future. Unfortunately, series creator,Derek Haas, isn’t much help when it comes to giving us so much as a hint whether a Season 2 greenlight is on the way, as it sounds like he’s fully leaving things in the hands of the top dogs at Prime Video, revealing:

“Fortunately, I only have to worry about making shows and not how the super high-ups make their scheduling decisions. They have to juggle a ton of strategies and relationships and data and experience and sometimes old-fashioned risk-taking… they’re smart people… I stay out of it!”

Letting go of control when it comes toCountdown’s possible continuation is something that Haas has addressed in the past, previously stating,

“I’m feeling good. I haven’t done streaming before, so kind of all of the analytics are new. It’s different from when I was doing network and you knew the next morning, like, oh, this is doing great, whatever. But I’m excited because it feels like we continue to pick up viewers every week and so that gets me all excited.”

It’s clear that although he created the uber-popular and long-runningOne Chicagofranchise, Haas is still a fish out of water when it comes to streaming and isn’t trying to count his eggs before they’ve hatched.

How Long Could ‘Countdown’ Run For?

Last week’s episode ofCountdownseemed to wrap up the first season with a neat bow, putting an end to the taskforce’s first official job together and playing outMeachum’s (Ackles) surgery for his brain tumor. Still, with a few episodes left, we know that Haas and the rest of the creative team havesomething big up their sleeves. And, even without a Season 2 renewal, audiences are wondering how long Haas sees the project continuing on for.

ComparingCountdownto one of his earlier hits, Haas said,

Countdown

“I said this before with ‘Chicago Fire’way back when. I was like, as long as people keep showing up, we’ll keep making it. Now did I think that would go for 14 years? I had no idea. So I will say the same thing about this: As long as people keep watching and digging it, then we will keep making it.”
