WhenNetflixdecided to adapt video game franchiseDevil May Cryinto a new animated series, the streamer knew that fans wanted to be surprised at every turn. They were, but soon after Season 1 premiered, they discovered that the surprises weren’t limited to the series itself. The streamer broughtEvanescencetoperform one of the series' theme songs, and that was surprising enough. However, the music video for “Afterlife” revealed that there are even more surprises in store: the music video brought a sneak peek from Season 2 of the series.

With the characteristic red look fromDevil May Cry, themusic videofrom “Afterlife” is a good way to welcome the rock band after a four-year hiatus. It is also an excellent way for vocalistAmy Leeto announce that Evanescence is planning to release a new album in 2025. But forDevil May Cryfans, the music video hadan extra special taste. In a certain moment, someone turns on a projector that starts to show some scenes on a hanging white blanket — and they are not from Season 1.

The sneak peek reveals two important elements from Season 2 ofDevil May Cry. The first one is that protagonist Dante (voiced byJohnny Yong Bosch) will be sporting longer hair in the upcoming episodes. The second is that he will wear aslightly different lookbut won’t let go of his signature red overcoat. He also is shown firing his twin guns Ebony and Ivory, famous items thatvideo game playersknow all too well.

Season 2 Of ‘Devil May Cry’ Is Already In Production

The sneak peek underscores the information that Netflix revealed to the public a couple of weeks ago. When the streamer announced that the show was picked up for Season 2, it was also revealed that showrunner and executive producerAdi Shankar(Castlevania: Nocturne) has been working on the series “every day since it was first announced in 2018.” This probably suggests that Shankarhas a long-term planin place as to what happens not only in Season 2, but if the series keeps getting picked up for additional seasons.

If theSeason 1 receptionserves as a thermometer, though, we will keep hearing fromDevil May Cryfor a long time. The series debuted with a comfortable96% scoreonRotten Tomatoes, and Collider’sAidan Kelleystatedin his reviewthat the series is “even better than the games.” He wrote:

“The new adaptation absolutely relishes its over-the-top action sequences, with Dante gleefully chewing up the scenery despite his corny one-liners. Dante himself manages to have the same immature tendencies without ever becoming unlikable or annoying. If anything, much like the show itself, Dante has more depth as a protagonist than he has ever had before in the games, and the thrilling action sequences as well as [Johhny Yong] Bosch’s charismatic performance as a younger, more naive Dante certainly help.”

Season 2 ofDevil May Cryis yet to get a release window at Netflix. You can stream all episodes from Season 1 now.
