Bound for the Emerald City, it invites audiences to jump on-board and witness the final chapter in the story of two best friends who are separated by the difficult circumstances that life throws their way. As the trailer suggests, the next movie will be overflowing with just as much spectacle as the first, showered in pink and green, and dripping in drama when we catch up withAriana Grande’s Glinda andCynthia Erivo’s Elphaba later this year on November 21.

Following in the footsteps of the Broadway musical that came before it,Wicked: For Goodwill pick up after Elphaba flies through the sky singing her curtain-dropping tune, “Defying Gravity”. She’s now an enemy of the city of Oz, with the great and powerful wizard himself (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) leading the charge in tracking her down and bringing her to justice. Working from the shadows, Elphaba continues her fight for the silenced animals, while Glinda celebrates her nuptials with Fiyero (JonathanBailey),who is beginning to fully lean into his good guy era. And then, of course, there’s the impending arrival of the legendary Dorothy, which will lead audiences to discover how her companions — The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion — came to be.

New Music Awaits Audiences in ‘Wicked: For Good’

When it was announced thatWickedwould be broken into two separate parts, fans of the originalBroadway musical were a bit confused. The stage show runs just short of three hours (including the 15-minute intermission), while the first film’s runtime is only five minutes less. It certainly didn’tneedto be carried over into two separate installments, and you can come to your own conclusion about the real reason that Universal decided to make it so, but to fill up the second act, the team dropped in some new tunes. Classics like “As Long As You’re Mine” and “No Good Deed” will still be there, but the musical’s composer,Stephen Schwartz, stepped in to pen some extras for the cinematic adaptation.

Previously teasing a songthat she worked on with the legendary Schwartz, Erivo said,

“I don’t know if you’re ready for it. I mean, I love the song and I remember when we filmed it, the cast and crew were crying. So I don’t know. And I don’t know if that’s just because they were emotional that day or that’s what the song does.”
