As Marvel Studios has just begun production on directorScott Derrickson’s magic-infusedDoctor Strange, the studio is currently in the midst of preparations for its next production, and it’s a doozy:Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Few could have predicted just how big of a successGuardians of the Galaxywould be when it opened last August, but the film performed like gangbusters and fans are clamoring for the follow-up, which seesJames Gunnreprising his duties as writer and director along with his cast ofChris Pratt,Zoe Saldana,Dave Bautista,Benicio Del Toro, and the voices ofVin DieselandBradley Cooper.
As Gunn continues pre-production down in Atlanta ahead ofa February or March start-date(and as Gunn and Marvel continuetheir casting search for the film’s Big Bad), the social media-friendly filmmaker recently took to Twitter to answer some fan questions about the follow-up. As is to be expected, he didn’t really reveal anythingtoomajor, but a few tidbits are certainly of note, especially the fact that the script has a “Groot Translation” version that only two people are allowed to see:

Speaking of the script, Gunn says it’s now nearly complete:
And unlikeGuardians of the Galaxy, which originated with a script byNicole Perlmanthat Gunn then rewrote,Vol. 2is solely Gunn’s:
One of the most iconic aspects ofGuardians of the Galaxyis its pitch perfect soundtrack, and Gunn revealed thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s music supervisor was able to secure the rights to every single song Gunn chose for the sequel:

And not that he really needed to, but the filmmaker also clarified that theGuardians of the Galaxyanimated series on Disney XD exists wholly separate from the films:
The filmmaker also touched on his relationship with Marvel, which seems to be going as swimmingly as it was on the first movie:

WhileGuardians 2hasn’t even started filming yet, has Gunn thought about whether he’d like to return and directGuardians of the Galaxy 3?
Also, that one big East Egg inGuardiansstill hasn’t been found:
Finally, some dirt on the movie’s cast:
As pre-production continues we should be hearing more casting news soon, but for now it appears as thoughGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2is in very good hands. The film is slated for release on August 04, 2025.
