There’s simply no hiding from thepoor start to life on our screensSuits LAhas had. The long-awaited spinoff to the smash-hit success ofSuitsstuttered out of the gates on its first couple of episodes, initially leading to a poor opening score on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, with theseries' 43% from criticspaling in comparison to the huge 91% rating for the original series. Alas, as episodes have been released andSuits LAedges closer to the halfway point, it seems fortunes are yet to change, with theseries' critical rating on the aforementioned site having now dropped to 39%.
From audiences, the originalSuits’strong 87% rating far outshines the subpar 47% held by the spinoff, although that number is at least higher than the critical score. This is all despite keeping important continuity between the series, withoriginalSuitscreatorAaron Korshback to craftSuits LAfrom the ground up,and everyone’s favoriteGabriel Machteven returning, albeit in acameo role in Episode 4, “Batman Returns.“Speaking about the poor comparative performance ofSuits LAthus far,Bryan Greenberg, who plays Rick Dodson, admitted toNDTV, “I think it’s fair!” before going on to add:

“But you know, just give us some time. That’s all I’m asking of the audience.Let us settle in. The audience is starting to understand that we are doing something different. I think we, as actors, are starting to fall into our roles. I think the writers are doing the same. I think we’re finding it and it’s great.”
‘Suits LA’ Episode 5 Sees the Series Get Back on Track
Although fans have been somewhat brutal in their assessment ofSuits LAto date, they’re still an honest fandom willing to admit when they are both right and wrong. Following the promising Episode 4, it looked as if better days were onSuits LA’s horizon, with this theory confirmed by thestellar Episode 5, “You’re On Your Own.“With Lester’s (Kevin Weisman) first day of trial imminent and Ted’s (Stephen Amell) anxieties starting to get the better of him, the door is now open for the dramatic set-up throughout Episodes 1–4 to flourish into unmissable television. This is certainly helped by Episode 5 finally giving Amanda (Maggie Grace) the space to shine, with her character almost undoubtedly the highlight of the series so far.
