John Krasinskiis set to search for theFountain of YouthinGuy Ritchie’s new action movie this weekend, but there’s one role from his past that he’ll never escape. Most people’s first introduction to Krasinski came in the form of Jim Halpert, the mild-mannered paper salesman at Dunder Mifflin from NBC’sThe Office. The series went off the air in 2013, but it’s still watched regularly to this day and widely regarded as one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Krasinski recently sat down for an interview with the Jake’s Takes show to promotehis new movie,Fountain of Youth, and he was asked if there was anything he’d ever successfully stolen from his time working onThe Office. He admitted that he“successfully stole something”fromThe Officeset, and that although he“doesn’t regret it,”he’s definitely“older and wiser”now. He even had to lie toGreg Danielsto make it happen:

“I don’t feel good about it, but I did have to point-blank lie to [co-creator] Greg Daniels. The day we wrapped the show, I don’t know why, all I wanted was the Dunder Mifflin sign that all the talking heads were in front of. There was just something about it being in the entrance to the office. So I stole it and put it in my car. I didn’t think it was stealing, I thought it was just free-for-all.”
However, that’s not the best part of the story. The Officecast frolicked down to a local bar to celebrate the show wrapping for the final time, and Krasinski bumped into Daniels while waiting for a drink.Daniels admitted to Krasinskithat he was“bummed,”and when pressed why, his answer certainly had a young Krasinski shaking in his boots:

And we got to the party that night, and I was literally at the bar getting a drink with Greg, andwe were all very sad. And he went, ‘I’m just so bummed’, and I said, ‘Why?’ and he said ‘The one thing I wanted, someone already took.'"
Krasinski asked what that was and learned it was the Dunder Mifflin sign he had swiped.

“And he goes, ‘Do you know who took it?’ And I went, ‘No. That is awful.’ AndI just point-blank lied to him.”
If Greg Daniels catches wind that Krasinski has his prized prop in his possession, he may have to watch his back. Still, it’s this hilarious bond between fellow cast and crewmates that shines so brightly, even on screen inThe Office, that helped turn the show into such a global sensation. Krasinski and co-starSteve Carellhave gone on to become the biggest celebrities from the series, although Carell already had some goodwill built up fromyears of dramas and comedies.
