Neve CampbellandCourteney Coxhave had their slasher franchise renaissance over the last few years thanks to the return ofScream, and soon, it will be time for two other iconic actors to reprise their roles from one of the best genre films of the ‘90s. On July 18,Jennifer Love HewittandFreddie Prinze Jr.will step back into the chilling world ofI Know What You Did Last Summerin theJennifer Kaytin Robinson-helmed follow-up. It’s been nearly three decades since audiences last caught up with Hewitt’s Julie James and Prinze Jr.’s Ray Bronson in the original sequel,I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. But, their stories aren’t the only ones that audiences want more of.

While we know that the new movie will pick up with the legacy characters and toss some newbies into the mix, what will it do withBrandy Norwood’s Karla Wilson? After surviving the bloody chaotic madness that went down inDanny Cannon’s 1998 follow-up, what happened to Karla? Is she still friends with Julie and Ray? What’s she doing today? Luckily, Robinson teased the next chapter of Karla’s story during a screening of the brand-new trailer, in which Collider’sAidan Kelleywas in attendance.

Indicating to the panel’s host that there would be some sort of update about Karla, Robinson simply yet sternly said,

“Go see the movie. Just go see the movie andsee it opening weekendis what I’ll say.”

Could Brandy Norwood Reprise Her Role In ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’?

When the hype and buzz surrounding theI Know What You Did Last Summersequel was reaching a fever pitch, with Prinze Jr. and Hewittannouncing their involvement, fans — and even Norwood herself — were wondering if there was a place for Karla at the table. The actresspreviously shared her interestin returning to the fold alongside her co-stars, but no official announcement was ever made. We know that Robinsondid everything in her powerto recruitSarah Michelle Gellarto test the limits of death (her character was brutally killed in the original) and reprise her role, but we don’t know if she pushed for Norwood’s very much alive Karla to swing by for a cameo.

If you want to be like us and read into every little detail, the director’s request for audiences to head to the theater to watch the movie opening weekend could point to the possibility of a spoiler. After all, if you don’t see it opening weekend and Norwoodispart of it, that could certainly spoil a good surprise. On the other hand, maybe she’s just giving a solid promotional shove to get box office numbers up on opening weekend. Either way, we’ll be there.
