Iron Man & Venom Have Become Film Icons

It’s hard to remember a time when Iron Man or Venom weren’t well-known characters in pop culture. Of course, Iron Man was brought to life byRobert Downey Jr.in theMCUand his first film in 2008 would cement the character/actor as the “Godfather” of this iconic shared universe. In the last two decades, the hero rounded out his own trilogy of films while appearing in epic crossovers likeThe Avengerssaga,Captain America: Civil WarandSpider-Man: Homecoming. Even though Iron Man hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2019’sAvengers: Endgamebecause of his noble sacrifice, he’s still the heart of the MCU.

Venom’s big-screen adventures, on the other hand, haven’t been as beloved. TheTodd McFarlanecreation was first seen on film in the much-malignedSpider-Man 3,where he was played byTopher Grace. A decade later in 2018, the famous Spider-Man villain would start his own film trilogy whereTom Hardytook on the role. Those films were far from critical darlings as they focused a lot on screwball humor, but they were big international hits for Sony Pictures.Venom: The Last Danceended Hardy’s time as the character last year. Venom’s cinematic future is a mystery, but the untitledSpider-Man 4is releasing in Summer 2026. The plot is being kept closed to a tangled web. A symbiote appearing in the film isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Especially since Sony’s extended live-action Spider-Verse films are done.
