After claiming the franchise’shighest criticsandaudience scoreon Rotten Tomatoes, it’s fair to say we’re so back withFinal Destination Bloodlines. Themore-than-a-decade waitwas very much well worth it for theelevated horror cinemathat audiences have been feasting their eyes on all weekend. While there are certainly a lot of folks who contributed to the production’s success, we’re incredibly thankful to co-directorsZach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, whose well-thought-out,Final Destination-esque interviewhelped them seal the deal. We’re happy to relish the glory ofBloodlines, but we’d be lying if we weren’t asking, “What’s next?” Following such a solid success, will Lipovsky and Stein return to the franchise down the road, or wasFinal Destination Bloodlines, well, their final destination?

Asking that exact question, Collider’sPerri Nemiroffgot an answer from the filmmakers that makes us all the more certain that we want them to be behindFinal Destination 7— whenever or however that may be. Sharing how the pair has been approaching the thought of continuing their directorial duties for the potential next installment, Lipovsky said:

“We’ve been debating that ourselves in that, honestly, at this moment, we put every idea that we possibly could think of into this movie. Every anxiety we could think of that would make for a great set piece, every small detail, every big callback that we wanted to do, every Easter egg.Everything we could think of is in this film. I’m sure with some time, new ideas will percolate. This one, with the bloodlines thing, it just allowed it to be so fresh, do the premonition in a different way, found a really great way of invigorating the character work, and it demanded to be made.We wouldn’t want to make another one unless it demanded to be made and we had another two hours of insanity to give people.I’m sure that can be done, but currently it’s a bit of a head-scratcher to figure out how, but it’ll take some time.”

What Took ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ So Long?

Final Destination 5blew our minds after entering cinemas back in 2011, making it a 14-year wait until the arrival ofFinal Destination Bloodlines. So, what took so long? Speaking with producerCraig Perry, Nemiroff got to the bottom of it, and, as one could imagine, it was a mix of things. From the COVID-19 pandemic to the actors’ strike, the roadblocks fell into place like one of death’s twisted designs, with Perry revealing:

“Let’s work backwards. COVID, that’s almost two and a half to three years gone right there. Then you have the actors’ strike, so that’s almost a year, probably, that has to go away because they have to wrap up. So, off the bat, you’re now to 10 years, right? And then we had to get the script ready and written, and that was about a two-year process for that. So, actually, we were ready to try again about six years after the fact, but circumstance and things just kind of got in the way.”

Of course, everything worked out just the way it should have, with the folks behind the sixth installment given more time to create the masterpiece ofFinal Destination Bloodlines, which is now playing in theaters. Watch Nemiroff’s full interview with Stein and Lipovsky below.
