If there is one thing movies should have taught us by now, it is thatcharacters only truly die when we see it happen. After watchingKeanu Reeves’s titular badassJohn Wickseemingly succumb to his Parisian injuries in the final moments ofJohn Wick: Chapter 4, fans felt that they had closure on the action hero’s saga, with the blow cushioned by the pending spin-off,From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starringAna de Armasas Eve Macarro, as well as many other projects from within the universe. Well, it seems the hero might not be dead after all, with it revealed thatJohn Wick 5was in developmentand Reeves would be reprising his role as the Baba Yaga in the film.

So, how are they going to get out of this narrative hole? Well, it seems that veteran directorChad Stahelskihas a few tricks up his sleeve, withChapter 5in this saga set to take a turn no one is expecting. In an interview withEmpire,Stahelski admitted the fifth chapter will be “really different,“saying, “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up. So the only way to do a5is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief.” Stahelski continued, “It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck… I gotta see that.’”
