StarChris Evansremained an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since his franchise debut in 2011, till his supposed retirement in 2019. Despite being familiar with franchise cinema, he admitted that he was still finding his footing during the production ofCaptain America: The First Avenger. He got into grove only duringCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, his second film as the iconic superhero. Evans would continue playing the character until 2019’sAvengers: Endgame, but despite numerous appearances as Captain America,he said at the Emerald City Comic Conlast year that his favorite film of the MCU remainsThe Winter Soldier. The movie was recently overtaken at the domestic box office byJames Gunn’sSuperman.
Released in 2014,The Winter Soldieris also notable for being directorsJoe and Anthony Russo’s debut in the MCU. They’d go on to directCaptain America: Civil War, as well asAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame. Combined,their Marvel films have grossed over $6.5 billion worldwide. It’s no wonder that they are back directing the upcomingAvengers: Doomsday.The Winter Soldier, which received acclaim for its grounded tone,earned $259 million domestically during its theatrical run. Globally, the film made over $700 million. It has now been overtaken on the stateside leader board by Gunn’sSuperman.

The MCU Has Been Having an Uneven Run
The Winter Soldieralso featured the debut ofAnthony Mackie’s Falcon. Mackie would go on to become an integral part of the franchise, taking over as Captain America after Evans moved on. He debuted as the character earlier this year, inCaptain America: Brave New World. The movie underperformed with just over $400 million worldwide, and earned poor reviews, continuing the franchise’s uneven run.
