If you’re aKey and Peelefan, you’ve probably experienced a period of mourning and withdrawal since the final episode aired last September. But sweet relief is finally here in the form of the first trailer forKeanu, the comedic duo’s first feature film about a guy who gets mixed up in the criminal underworld over his love for a super cute kitten.
Jordan Peelestars as Rell, a down-on-his-luck man who finds new meaning in life when he adopts an adorable furry little companion, the titular Keanu. When his beloved kitten is catnapped, he teams up with his equally straight-laced suburbanite cousin Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key) to infiltrate a street gang and rescue the little fuzzykins. But Keanu’s so damn adorable, everybody wants him, setting off a gang war and forcing Clarence and Rell to take the law into their own hands.Keanuis directed byPeter Atencio(who directed every episode ofKey and Peele) and also starsTiffany Haddish,Method Man,Jason Mitchell,Luis Guzman,Nia LongandWill Forte. This feels right at home in Key and Peele’s sweet spot as comedians, but it’s also very obviously a cinematic story rather than a sketch brought to life. But, to be fair, the sketches on Key and Peele were always impressively cinematic to begin with. Bottom line, this looks like another knock out from the wildly clever, relentlessly goofy comedic duo. And adding an adorable kitten to the proceedings is never a bad idea. As we learned withJohn Wick, there’s nothing like a furry loved one to inspire rampant violence.
