The 31st Annual SAG Awards included a milestone for one actor in particular. At 74 years old, actor and comedianMartin Shortwon his first SAG Award. The actor won for “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series” for his role as Oliver Putnam in Hulu’sOnly Murders in the Building. Short has previously been nominated for his work on the show in 2022 and 2023. He, along with hisOnly Murders in the Buildingco-stars also won for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series tonight during the SAG Awards.
Short came down with COVID-19 after the 50th Anniversary Special for Saturday Night Live, asconfirmed bySteve Martin, Short’s life-long best friend and Only Murders in the Building co-star, which likely explains his absence from the awards show. Short, who has been acting and doing comedy since 1972, is best known for his work on the sketch-comedy showSaturday Night Live. He’s also guest-starred in on several shows includingArrested Development,Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit, and more. Short has spent the last 4 years starring onOnly Murders in the Buildingwith Martin as well asSelena Gomez(Wizards of Waverly Place).
Will There Be ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5?
Only Murders in the Buildingwas renewed for a fifth season before Season 4 was fully released. The last season saw Short’s character Oliver marry Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep) as well as solve Sazz’s (Jane Lynch) murder. Of course, the seasons ends on a cliffhanger with another murder being discovered by the Arconia trio.Co-creatorJohn Hoffmanteased to The Wrapback in October that in Season 5, “we’re trying to tell a particular kind of take from a New York angle. Season 5 will hit on some very current things going on within New York, specifically very relevant things that are happening in the city right now, in ways that honestly we couldn’t have even predicted.” As for Streep possibly returning to the Arconia, Hoffman says, “I find it very hard to imagine Loretta not being a part of this television show now, and I’ve told Meryl this and I think she feels similarly. Truthfully, I have nothing but huge wishes that we get to do more with her without question. It’s all about getting the right story for her and getting her something worthy.”
