Village Roadshow Entertainment Group (VREG) announced just today that it has acquired the film and TV rights to best-selling video gameMyst. As the press release goes, “the company will rely on and expand upon the game’s existing mythology to develop a multi-platform universe including film, scripted and unscripted television content.” Details beyond that are non-existent, so until we see some actual dates, casting, and creative talent assigned, consider us cautiously optimistic....

Netflix has announced a new adult animated comedy series based on the popular Twitter account byChris WitaskecalledChicago Party Aunt. Created and executive produced by Witaske,Jon Barinholtz, andKatie Rich, the series will be a 30-minute, 16-episode series premiering in 2 parts. Titmouse, the studio behindBig MouthandHuman Resources, will serve as the animation studio.Lego City AdventuresandNew Looney Tunes’Matt Craigwill join as the showrunner. Disney and Pixar released a new poster and images forLightyear, the highly-anticipated animated spinoff ofToy Story. The film follows the adventures of the movie Buzz Lightyear as he becomes the famous Space Ranger that will inspire an entire line of toys. The new images show Buzz preparing to depart on a space exploration mission. The hero is seen inside the cockpit of a spaceship and talking to one of his colleagues from the Space Academy....

Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmareis the official fifth sequel in theNightmare on Elm Streetfranchise, one meant to send the dream reaper off in grand fashion. It didn’t. Instead, it followed the pattern of progressively worse sequels and did nothing to bringFreddy Krueger(Robert Englund) back to the horrific, fear-inducing monster of the first film. The video shows Harry Holland performing his stunt, which involved hanging upside down from a rope (or web?) as swinging past a set of storefronts as he is brought to justice by the webslinger. In the deleted scene, the younger Holland plays a criminal chased by Spider-Man, ending with the criminal hung upsidedown — by request of the older Holland, in a move that smacks of true older-sibling mischief....
