In addition to the high-priced commercials, we’re getting new and first looks at some of this year’s biggest movies. The showcase can pay off, as with Marvel Studios and Paramount’s big gamble on toutingIron Manback in the day, putting Marvel’s first self-produced superhero movie on people’s radar....

It’s a genre that’s been done many times before and directorPhillippe Falardeaudoesn’t change the formula too much, except for a nice meta twist built into the true story. The Expansemight just be the best hard sci-fi series on TV, and in Season 4, it’s heading to uncharted territories – both in the series and in real life. The new Avatar has officially unveiled themselves atSan Diego Comic-Con. During the 20th anniversaryAvatar: The Last Airbenderpanel, the first artwork from the next series in the Nickelodeon franchise,Avatar: Seven Havens, was shown to attendees, depicting the new earthbender who will become the master of all elements, alongside her mentor. Stanley Kubricknotoriously found most of the inspiration for his legendary filmography in novels. What is perhaps most striking is that the filmmaker’s most visually striking and thematically expansive film,2001: A Space Odyssey, was adapted from a brief, eleven-page short story written byArthur C. Clarke. Kubrick went a long way to fill in the gaps with his adaptation. Growing up in a post-apocalyptic world must be a drag, and we’ll soon find out all about it inVesper, an upcoming sci-fi movie that chronicles humanity’s attempt to survive after the collapse of Earth’s ecosystem. The story will center around a teenage girl who is forced to learn and use survival skills while trying to explore the devastated Earth and reach a place called Citadel. The poster forVesperprovides a glimpse into the wasteland that Earth has become in the story, with the title character facing an octopus-like pod that, much like everything else, has decayed into uselessness....
