For Iannucci, we’re all craven and incompetent, and while the settings and situation might change, the actors involved will continue to bungle their way through....

You ever see one of those movies that you know is conventional, understand is nothing you haven’t seen before, but like it anyway? That’sThe Hollars, which marksJohn Krasinski’s second directorial effort after 2009’sBrief Interviews with Hideous Menand is a prime example of a film that overcomes a fairly rote script thanks to an incredibly charming cast. Krasinsky stars in theJames Strouse-penned film as John Hollar, an aspiring graphic novel artist toiling away at a New York City publishing company and suffering from an overall lack of joy in his life, despite the fact that his longtime girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) is pregnant with his child....

Today we’re talking about the pure sensual heat overflowing from the debut teaser forPassionflix’s upcoming series adaptation ofJ.R. In 1986’sSuper Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, a poison mushroom is among the items available for Mario and Luigi to grab on their quest through the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach. Unlike every other item seen in the then-nascent franchise, this item was designed to hurt the user; it looked, on first glance, like a regular power-up mushroom, but if you grab it, you’ll either shrink or die. It was a stunning piece of darkness, even betrayal, to introduce into the friendly, smiley world established in theMariovideo game franchise thus far....

Whether they know him fromForrest GumporToy Story, he’s been in so many films and crossed so many genres that he’s become an easily recognizable figure in Hollywood. Even early in his career, he was taking on roles that were unique and showcased different sides of his acting abilities. Perhaps the most major takeaway, for viewers, between the quality ofTrue DetectiveSeason 1 and Season 2 was that creatorNic Pizzolattoworks best when challenged. The Season 1 set was reportedly very contentious, as directorCary Fukunagapushed back on a lot of Pizzolatto’s ideas, and vice versa. That honed the story, and the way it was told, into something really excellent, which was not repeated when Fukunaga left before Season 2. Netflix released the first teaser ofVIVO, the upcoming animated film starringLin-Manuel Mirandaas the titular kinkajou — aka, a very cute tropical mammal. The teaser comes just one day after the streaming giant acquired distribution rights for the movie from Sony, ensuring another super production will get the Netflix Original seal. The teaser presents us to Vivo and his master Andrés (Juan de Marcos González), who spend their days playing music to the crowds in a Havana square....

As part of Intergalactic Friendship Day, execs for bothStar TrekandDoctor Whoparticipated in a panel atSan Diego Comic ConSaturday. Out of that panel, came the announcement of a mobile game featuring characters frombothfranchises. As showrunners,Alex KurtzmanandRussell T. Daviesnerded out over the other’s projects, it was revealed that while an actual crossover isn’t possible just yet due to the legalese, the mobile game will be available to play on August 1 featuring some familiar faces....

While filmmakerZack Snyderlooks like he’s going to be very, very busy for the foreseeable future, he’s notonlyfocused on making DC Comics adaptations for the rest of his life.
