Original shows have a hard time of making it work in the modern world, and we lost one of the better ones. Prime Video’sÉtoilewas cancelledafter just one season. Deadline reportedthat theAmy Sherman-PalladinoandDaniel Palladinoserieswas cancelleddespite having a two-season order. According to the report, it was due to the show’s performance vs. cost report and not a change of who is in charge of Amazon MGM Studios.Jennifer Salkehad been the one to give the series a two-season order, and she left her position in March.
The cancellation is devastating for fans of the series. The Season 1 finale left fans with an open-ended question about Jack (Luke Kirby) and Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge) that was, seemingly, going to be answered in the next season. But it was reported that part of the reason for the show’s cancellationcame down to how expensive the show was to make. Not only didÉtoilehave some of the best dancers in the world on their payroll, but they alsofilmed in some of the most iconic buildings in both New York City and Paris. Neither place is cheap to film in.

The series was also dropped onPrime Video as a binge-watch. The platform does a mix of binge-drops and weekly releases, but the former hadÉtoilefading from the top slot on the platform quite quickly. It is the second series that Sherman-Palladino and Palladino had for Prime Video following the success of their show,The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which also had Kirby andGideon Glickin it.
Sherman-Palladino has brought her ballet past into the fold before with herABC Family seriesBunheads. The short-lived series had 18 episodes, but it was enough for fans tofall in love withSutton Fosterin the ballet series. The cancellation ofÉtoilemarks the second ballet-themed series from Sherman-Palladino to be cancelled within one season. And the cancellation ofÉtoileis doubly annoying given the fact thatthe series was originally greenlit for a second seasonby the streaming platform.

For now, you can share your sorrows with other fans ofÉtoileby rewatching the series on Prime Video.
