James Gunnis no stranger to making superhero movies. Gunn has directed projects for both DC and Marvel movies, withThe Suicide Squadin 2021 as well as all threeGuardians of the Galaxymovies. His familiarity with the genre is a great asset in bringing things together for the DCU. Now, fans are under two weeks out from the release ofSuperman. When visiting the set, Collider’sRoss Bonaimesat down with the cast to talk about the production of theDavid Corenswet-led superhero movie. During the roundtable interviews,Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, was asked about what she thinks setsSupermanapart from the other superhero movies Gunn has been tied to, and what’s remained the same. She said:
“It feels hopeful, rather than explicitly comedic to me. I think one of the things I love about so many of James’s movies is that they’re a real shot in the arm of hope. They remind you that the reason people love comic books is becausethey teach us that superheroes aren’t the only superheroes. They aren’t the only ones with important powers in these worlds. They remind us the importance of courage and tenacity and interest in each other’s well-being.What it means to be in service of the greater good. And I think we could really use a shot in the arm of hope right now.

A lot of these movies, you know, the [Christopher] Nolan Batman movies, were such a specific representation of these comics at a specific moment in time. And I think part of the reason they were so successful is because they felt like what we needed. And sothe hope is that this version is the Superman we need right now.”
Will We See More Lois Lane in Future DCU Projects?
Even though this isn’t Gunn’s firstDCU project, it seems to be the most highly anticipated. It’s also Brosnahan’s first DCU project, playing the hardworking, ambitious Daily Planet reporter, Lois Lane, who also happens to be Superman’s significant other. Brosnahan steps into the roleafter countless others have brought Lois Lane to lifeon-screen or lent their voices to the iconic character. Could we see Brosnahan again? She’s hopeful. She said, “I’d be so lucky.I mean, we’re early, so talk to me in a couple of years.” She says, “I would feel so lucky to have something, and certainly something as iconic as this, to return to.”
