The veil of secrecy that theStar Warsfranchise operates under has been increasingly easy to pierce. This week saw reports come to light that writer-director-producerTony Gilroyis taking on a much bigger role in theRogue One: A Star Wars Storyreshoots than was originally reported. Not only was he seemingly at the forefront of the reshoots, he is “supervising” the editing process with an unreported amount of “input” from the film’s director,Gareth Edwards. Gilroy and Edwards worked together on post-production forGodzilla, so this isn’t exactly devastating news, but the release of this information undoubtedly calls into question just exactly how much drama was going on behind the scenes of theStar Warsspin-off.

The latest bit of information to come out of theRogue Oneshoots, however, is something that falls directly at the feet of Disney.Jimmy Smits, who played Bail Organa in theStar Warsprequels, visited the hosts of The Talk recently, in anticipation of his role in the upcoming Netflix series,The Get Down, and was greeted with a bit of a surprise. A devotedStar Warsfan had scoured theRogue Onereelthat was released at the Star Wars Celebration last month and pinpointed a moment where you may see a portion of Mr. Smits in his Organa uniform. After a moment of disbelief, Smits confirmed that Organa will indeed appear in the upcoming spin-off in a very small role.

Considering the fact that the spin-off will also includescenes with Darth Vader, as previously announced, this isn’t a huge shock really but it’s certainly a nice little notation to a film that will almost certainly make better use of the character than the prequels did. Smits has the one thing that all great actors require, and that’s presence. He is a tremendous force inThe Get Down, and even in a small cameo role, one can expect that he will draw viewers in when he appears in the film. Now, to begin speculating on how he will figure into the movie.
