However,Jack Reacher’s streaming success comes in spite of the disapproval of the character’s creator,Lee Child. In an interview withMetroearlier this year, Child admitted that he findsCruise an unworthy actor to play the role, especially when compared to the intimidating stature of Ritchson. “I mean, for instance, in one of the Tom Cruise movies, there’s a line where the detective goes to the motel and says, “I’m looking for a guy who could kill someone with one punch,” and they point to Tom Cruise, which is not really all that plausible,” Child explained, adding,“Whereas if you point to Alan, yes, it is plausible.“Although he thinks Cruise was miscast, Child still loved working with him, saying, “I love Tom. He’s a super guy, a smart person, and we were good friends. We worked together very well.”
