This concept is truly so perfect, I don’t know why it hasn’t been conceived of before. Or if conceived of, never drawn. Maybe because it’s just too beautiful? Too perfect? Why am I crying?
There have been rumors here and there of a new adaptation ofThe Legend of Zeldastory (including alive-action versionon Netflix), but ever since that terrible 80s cartoon and the nuclear miss of 1993’s Super Mario Bros movie, Nintendo has been reticent to allow further adaptations. Until now, right Nintendo? Until now?!

If only. But if only, let it be Studio Ghibli, the home ofSpirited Away,Howl’s Moving Castle,My Neighbor Totoroand many more. The artistMatt Vincehas reached into our collective dreamscape and made some Zelda concept posters as if it were aHayao Miyazakifilm, and it’s really just perfect. Link looking off from the Kokiri Forest towards Death Mountain (the rocks! The signpost!), Princess Zelda looking out from Hyrule Castle, andGanon/dorf looming, waiting (with those damned bats).
I mean, truly, who better to adapt such a beloved franchise in a way that would feel true to the games at their best? Both visually and emotionally,The Legend of Zeldafeels like it would be a perfect fit with Studio Ghibli’s aesthetic. (Even though production has halted since Miyazaki’s retirement in 2014, we can dream, ok?We can dream!) Check out the concept posters below, and let us know what you think.
