The new Avatar has officially unveiled themselves atSan Diego Comic-Con. During the 20th anniversaryAvatar: The Last Airbenderpanel, the first artwork from the next series in the Nickelodeon franchise,Avatar: Seven Havens, was shown to attendees, depicting the new earthbender who will become the master of all elements, alongside her mentor. Her name is Pavi, and, like Aang and Korra before her, she comes with a delightful new animal companion in the form of a big cat. More about the character and what to expect from the series will be revealed as the series draws closerto its likely 2027 release, though series creatorsMichael DiMartinoandBryan Konietzkowere able to share a few other new details.
Announcedback in February,Seven Havensis the follow-up toAvatar: The Legend of Korra, following the young Pavi who discovers she’s the successor to the late waterbender. In a world wrought by a cataclysm, the Avatar is no longer seen as a symbol of hope and balance but as a bringer of destruction, hunted by humans and spirits alike. Her goal is to reunite with her twin sibling to save the Seven Havens, the last bastion of civilization before it, too, crumbles to dust. The artworkreflects the desolate world of the new Avatar, which is now a crumbling desert with crystals on the ground. Pavi herself is a little worse for wear with a wooden leg, though she still has a shine of optimism about her, with her cat companion accompanying her alongside her mentor, Jae, an airbender.

It’s now confirmed that the series will run a total of 26 episodes spanning across two seasons. That’s a fair bit shorter than the61-episode run ofThe Last Airbenderand the 52-episode span ofThe Legend of Korra, but it hints at a more focused story overall. In general, the newAvatarseries looks to strike a very different balance compared to its predecessors, promising a darker tone overall, given how the state of the world and opinions on the Avatar have changedsince the time of Aang. With DiMartino and Konietzko back at the helm, however, it’ll be an exciting expansion of the franchise thatfurther evolves the visionthey’ve been developing since 2005.
