Coming out of the massive bombshell that was Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic Con panel, it was announced thatJoeandAnthony Russowould be back to directAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars. However the news doesn’t stop there as it has been revealed through an official press release from the Russo Brothers production company AGBO thatStephen McFeelywas listed as writer for both upcoming Avengers films. This means at least one half of Russo’s MCU writing team is back.

McFeely has been a Marvel mainstay for over a decade. His first MCU film was in the shared universe’s infancy, co-writingCaptain America: The First Avengers. He would then go on to co-write the next twoCaptain Americafilms,Winter SoldierandCivil War, before moving onto the last twoAvengersfilms,Infinity WarandEndgame. Four out of the five of these MCU adventures the Russo brothers directed. McFeely co-wrote all his Marvel entries with his writing partnerChristopher Markus. While Markus name was not mentioned on the press release the pair has been a writing team since 2004. WithDeadpool & Wolverinereleasing this weekend, the theme for the MCU is returning to their normal high quality standards. The Russos and McFeely’s involvement in the nextAvengersinstallments is the next logical step in that. Especially since McFeely’s work is ranked among the best this expansive multiverse has to offer.

The Avengers vs. Doctor Doom

Why isAvengers 5now titledDoomsday? Well that’s becausethe Marvel super team will be going up against Fantastic Four villain Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom. If that news couldn’t be anymore exciting theMCU’s GodfatherRobert Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man, has been cast as the iconic foe. That shattering news seemingly whips away the film’s previous focus which would involveJonathan Major’s Kang. The MCU was building up to the previous titleKang Dynastystarting with 2021’sLokiSeason 1, but the legal troubles with Majors and Marvel letting the actor go lead to the studio changing directions. It’s all the more fitting sinceThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsis releasing next summer and may very well set up the events ofDoomsday. The firstAvengersfilm in six years will release on July 08, 2025 whileAvengers: Secret Warswill debut a year later in 2027.
