Now that the premiere ofThe SandmanSeason 2 is just around the corner,Netflixdecided to drop a new trailer for the upcoming final season and provide a closer look at what we can expect to see in the next episodes. They will be released in two batches: Volume 1 debuts on July 3 and Volume 2 on July 24. The first and most notable element ofThe Sandmanseason 2’s new trailer is that it brings to life a moment that has been teased during the many years that the series was on hiatus. We willfinally see the family reunitedas Dream (Tom Sturridge) goes to the Endless realm to talk to all his siblings. As Death warns him, Dream is becoming too involved with his mission, and that is starting to become a problem that puts his existence at risk. “Everyone loves a good story,” Death says. “But all stories come to an end.”

Season 2 will also bring its share of familiar faces to the screen. Once again, Dream will go all the way to hell to challenge Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie) and save someone who has been trapped there. Both entities came head-to-head before, and Lucifer has been waiting for a chance for revenge. Might that be it? Is the ruler of the darkness the one who will exterminate Morpheus forever? Was ‘The Sandman’ Supposed To End With Season 2?

Fans have had to wait three years for a new season ofThe Sandman. Now, the episodes come with a bittersweet taste after somehorrific abuse allegations against franchise creator Neil Gaiman(Good Omens) came to light. After it happened, Netflix announced that Season 2 would be the last one of the series. Despite the timing, showrunnerAllan Heinberg(Wonder Woman) released an official statement revealing thatit was always the plan to end the story with only two seasons. The originalSandmanhas several volumes, but Heinberg stated that the plan was always to focus on the story of Morpheus, meaning that they didn’t plan to cover segments in which the protagonist is barely present.

According to Netflix, the new season ofThe Sandmanwill adapt fan-favorite story arcsfrom the comics, including theSeason of Mists,Brief Lives,The Kindly Ones, andThe Sandman: Overture. Additionally, some single-issue stories likeTales in the Sand,A Midsummer Night’s Dream,The Song of Orpheus,Thermidor, andThe Tempest, and others have also served as inspiration for the new episodes.
