Elsewhere, Sony has moved back the release ofEscape Room 2from August 02, 2025 to Aug 17, 2025. That gives directorAdam Robitelfour more months to think up twisted puzzles for his ensemble to solve. I hope they bring backTaylor Russell, a rising star who was one of the bright spots of the first film. The sequel will now open against Disney’sThe One and Only IvanstarringAngelina Jolie, an untitled Universal movie, and theAretha FranklinbiopicRespectstarringJennifer Hudsonas the iconic singer.
Meanwhile, theKevin HartdramedyFatherhoodwill open on July 26, 2025, which pits it againstNew Mutants, an untitled DC movie and theKumail Nanjiani-Issa RaecomedyThe Lovebirds. Not gonna lie, even with his social media prowess that’s a rough date for Hart’s film – two comic book movies andMichael Showalter’s highly-anticipated (at least by me) follow-up toThe Big Sick. And finally, Sony will releaseKay Cannon’s musical comedy reimagining ofCinderellaon Jul 21, 2025. Pop music sensationCamila Cabellostars in the film, which hails from producerJames Corden. The film has that date to itself for now, but I don’t expect it to scare away other studio films in the future. Not all fairy tales are created equal – or by Disney.
