Summerween is here, Los Angeles! To celebrate, Collider is partnering with Quiver Distribution to invite readers to a heart-racing screening of co-writer and directorMitzi Peirone’s horror thrillerSaint Clare. It’s the filmmaker’s unnerving sophomore feature after their fever dream of a horror, 2018’sBraid, that starsBella Thorne(The Babysitter) andRyan Phillippe(Cruel Intentions). In addition to attending the free screening, Peirone, director of photographyLuka Bazeli, who worked onBlack WidowandA Cure for Wellness, andJoy Rovaris(Beauty in Black) will join us after the movie for an exclusive Q&A conversation. Read on for the full details on how to enter for your chance to win free tickets.
With a screenplay co-written by Peirone andAmerican Psycho’sGuienevere Turner,Saint Clareis based on authorDon Roff’s novelClare at 16, and not unlike Peirone’s directorial debut, it centers around a girl some might deem rather unhinged. The movie follows the titular, solitary young woman, Clare Bleecker, played by Thorne, who has heard voices ever since she was a little girl. These haunting whispers lead Clare to unsavory individuals with nefarious intentions. Dutifully, believing she’s enacting the will of God, Clare then carries out gruesome killings, murdering these ne’er-do-wells in cold blood — lots of blood —Dexter-style. Though she’s precise and swift, Clare takes no pleasure in this burden, or gift, depending on the beholder’s eyes. Now, after her most recent slaying, Clare finds herself ensnared in a web of trafficking, corruption, and mysterious and disturbing visions.

Saint Clarecelebrated its world premiere at the 2024 Taormina Film Festival before making the festival circuit with FrightFest, Oldenburg International Film Festival and SXSW Sydney. Peirone’s horror earned Best Narrative Feature and Best Director at the L.A. Independent Women Film Awards. In addition to Thorne, Phillippe, Castellanos, and Rovaris, the movie also featuresFrank Whaley(The Doors,Pulp Fiction), andErica Dasher(Jane by Design).
