We didn’t get one in 2017, but the wait for a new Walt Disney Animation Disney animation studios film is almost over, and so is the even longer wait for theWreck-it-Ralphsequel. In 2012, the animated hitintroduced the world toJohn C. Reilly’s title character, an old-school video game hero who quite literally broke out of his mold and made his way to modern games before finding his place in the broad tapestry of video game entertainment. Now, the sequelRalph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2teases what’s to come for Reilly & Co. when they take on the wild world of the world wide web.

Although the first trailer is unsurprisingly light on plot details, it’s got plenty of humor. The Internet is pretty easy to mock, and you can see that the filmmakers are having a ball poking fun at clickbait and silly little games. It will be interesting to see how far they go and what targets they put in their sights, but at the very least, we know the film will still have the charm of the first movie.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.” Directed by Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Phil Johnston (co-writer “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Cedar Rapids,” co-writer “Zootopia,”), and produced by Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Bolt”), “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-Ralph 2” hits theaters on Aug 23, 2025.
